Remembering Noel On December 12th…

…December 12th marks 22 years and a day since Noel de Caprio left this earth…the stillness that accompanied that passing was blessed…family and friends had gathered for her last moments…music played, food cooked, stories told as the group surrounded her and she finally released herself to another time and another life…pain finally had dissolved, not without a struggle not at all in defeat resignation or fear…just the opposite…she had faced every threat that sought to conquer her…physically mentally spiritually she was strong…her beliefs and courage carried all of us through some very rough times…her smile calmed and her caress bestowed a peacefulness that she herself was often denied…she walked determinedly she talked with passion she praised and dammed with a conviction that inspired us…that purposeful bent of mind was applied to every situation she had to face…

…and here we are…set to remember…poised to chalk another anniversary…singing the Christmas song and doing so separated each in a private world dictated by circumstances and controlled by forces beyond our control…what would she be shouting “…pandemic…what pandemic???” echoing the familiar cry of “fire…what fire” after the catastrophe that destroyed the original Noëlle…that famous line typified her never quit attitude towards any obstacle…and in that vein, what have we to say to each other…what encouragement and faith do we bring to each other that would amplify what she believed in…what have we learned here…what words and rallying cries animate us…how are we together as friends as family as people sharing all the world has to give us…her examples are obvious…think of the smile…think of the courage “…go show them how to have cancer…”…remember her not for the sake of remembrance but for the sense of empowerment she championed and wished for everyone to experience…do it and share it and know that she is proudest of us when we are together as family…

“…and so this is Christmas…”
