Life, first and foremost, is a call to action…

Mother’s Day 2018 has passed and ahead lies its sibling, Father’s Day…and knowing its commercial value in terms of endearments and consumptions, the web, local advertising, and window displays call for action to remember dad, proclaiming that herein lies what dad really wants on this Hallmark Holiday…my dad passed away more than forty years ago so that gift that “he really wanted” will not be claimed by me nor appreciated by him…and being a father, were I to be asked what that “really wanted” gift might be, I would be stumped for an answer…yet the mention of that sales-driven “want gift” does call for action…

…that “call to action” was a focus of a memorial I attended this past Sunday…the man being memorialized was 94, having had an abundant life and populated the world with 5 children of whom one is our neighbor…as he, his three brothers, and his one sister spoke about their dad, then were followed by this man’s grand children speaking in kind about (poppa), there emerged this portrait of that really wanted gift…simply more men as him…not perfect just incredibly human and a refuge and inspiration for his family and all fortunate enough to have been influenced by his spirit…I had shared a cup of coffee with him on occasion at our corner store and the steadiness of his eyes animated his spirit and proved to be the master of a body crippled by parkinson’s…the few moments spent with him were unique…those who spoke at the memorial gave my scant knowledge of him substance and the absolute power of this man emerged through the intention and focus of those who have come after him…

…Mr Paul Green wanted all of us to know two vital things about life…

…life, first and foremost, is a call to action…
…in life, you must never, never, never give up…

…my really, really, really wanted gift for myself and all of us is to have Mr Paul Green’s abundant spirit animating our lives every day…

…happy father’s day…
